In this paper, a novel performance assessment benchmark based on survival information potential (SIP) is proposed for the superheated steam temperature cascade control system with non-Gaussian noises. Firstly, in order to characterize the randomness of system, SIP is adopted to formulate the optimization criterion for calculating the primary controller. The secondary controller is selected to be a conventional proportional controller. Then, based on the SIP benchmark, a performance index for assessing control performance of the considered system is established. Finally, both the controller design and performance assessment strategies are applied to the simulation study of the superheated steam temperature cascade control system.
