The mechanism study of disproportionate permeability reduction by hydrophobically associating water-soluble polymer gel

Abstract This paper is focused on the flow characteristics of hydrophobically associating water-soluble polymer (HAWSP) gel system during displacement period through a series of flow experiments. The results show that the HAWSP gel exhibits a remarkable disproportionate permeability reduction phenomenon when the amount of gel injected to both water and oil channels are equal. The adsorptive-retention of polymer gel is probably the main factor leading to the result of disproportionate permeability reduction.
