Home Monitoring for the Sudden Infant Death Syndrome

Many infants are referred to medical centers for evaluation of their cardiopulmonary status because they have a family history of SIDS or apnea or because they have had a frightening episode of apnea and/or severe choking with color and tone change. In our country, many of these infants are monitored at home,',2 despite the lack of any study which demonstrates the efficacy of this treatment modality or documents which infants should be monitored. To address the questions of selection criteria and efficacy of home monitoring, I will describe in this paper the protocol of our program and the outcome of the infants referred to us.
