A STATE OF THE ART REVIEW OF CORPUS LINGUISTICS JOURNALS

The study of a spoken or written language, based on its huge electronic collection, is called corpus linguistics. The purpose behind corpus linguistics is to make a language available for research in its machine readable form. In Natural Language Processing, the corpus os of great importance because it helps in language learning, research and its applications in a number of fields such as medical, education and web. This paper is a survey of the three popular international journals of corpus linguistics namely Corpora, Corpus Linguistics and Linguistics Theory and International Journal of Corpus Linguistics. The purpose of this research paper is to reveal to the readers what is going on in the field of corpus linguistics, where and by whom it is done or is still continued. Here, the abstracts of all the volumes (issues) of 2008-10 of these journals are reviewed and some interesting results regarding contributions are concluded from different aspects in the form of charts e.g. country-wise, university-wise, language-wise, language area-wise, typyes of corpora, continent wise contribution of the countries and authors with more publications.
