On: “Why don’t we measure seismic signatures?” by A. Ziolkowski (February 1991 GEOPHYSICS, p. 190–201)

Professor Ziolkowski makes many statements all of which are aimed at denouncing statistical‐based deconvolution methods in favor of his own deterministic‐based method. It is incredible that after almost 40 years confusion still abounds about statistical‐based deconvolution methods. I hope to clarify this confusion in a forthcoming publication (Robinson and Mendel, 1992). Here my purposes are to expose some technical errors in Prof. Ziolkowski’s article that cast doubt on the entire paper.
