Learners’ Spontaneous Translations in an L2 Reading Comprehension Task: Vocabulary Knowledge and Use of Schemata

Reading is a complex process simultaneously proceeding on two levels: readers are constantly abstracting meaning from texts and deriving macrostructures or meaning on the global level, and from microstructures or propositions on the local level (van Dijk, 1977, 1980; Kintsch and van Dijk, 1978).
