A Discourse-based Teaching Model of College English Writing

Discourse analysis is a new branch of linguistics.Many theories of discourse analysis such as text pattern,cohesion and coherence are expected to be applied to the field of English writing teaching and learning so as to improve the students' English writing competence.This paper aims to study the application of discourse analysis theories to English writing and propose a discourse-based teaching model of English writing teaching,in which writing are integrated with reading.This model consists of four steps: introduction to relevant theory,the integration of reading and writing,group discussion and writing,and final product and evaluation.
