Advances in the Integration of Human Engineering and Systems Engineering

The effective inclusion of humans as part of a system commonly requires significant human factors or human engineering input, which must be properly integrated with the overall system development process. This paper describes two recent efforts of the US Navy's Manning Affordability Initiative to influence the systems engineering community to make such integration more likely. One effort involves influencing a systems engineering standard, and the other involves contributions to be made to a systems engineering “how to” handbook.
