So You Think You Don't Have Problems!

You may believe your internal processes are in good running order and they deliver what you need - but how good are they really? It will be too late to find out that something is not working as it should be when the cold light of competition is upon you. This paper considers performance improvement and the need to configure your internal systems to deliver timely and accurate information to the right people. Reference will be made to recent benchmarking projects where it became obvious that council's internal systems didn't provide the necessary information for performance to be measured. Smaller sized councils have, in the past, been reluctant/unable to commit the necessary resources to carry out such projects. However, recent projects have shown that there are a number of ways for those councils to take advantage of benchmarking and other performance improvement tools without the costs being prohibitive.
