Concept for introducing the vision of industry 4.0 in a simulation game for non-IT students

The transformation of enterprises from an ISA 95 structure to the vision of Industry 4.0 is in process. One issue to the transformation is how to qualify workers to work in an Industry 4.0 environment. Current investigations focus on how workers, such as operators and leaders, can become qualified in aspects of Industry 4.0 (e.g. OPC-UA, Internet of Things, or Internet of Services), but neglect the interdisciplinary qualification of students during their time studying at university. The paper presents a concept of how the vision of Industry 4.0 can be taught to non-informatic students using a simulation game. For this approach, a literature review was made of the key aspects of Industry 4.0 and successful simulation gaming in education. Based on the literature review, the paper presents a method for modifying a current simulation game for business and technical programs to demonstrate the key aspects of Industry 4.0 to students.
