Genetic algorithm-linear programming method for optimal design of supply looped water network with single source by gravity

The concept of basic pipe segment flow is suggested. The nonlinear programming mathematical model, in which basic pipe segment flow is used as decision variables, is established to determine the optimal discharge distribution. The linear programming mathematical model, in which the pipe segment dimensions are adopted as decision variables, is established to determine the optimal design of the distribution of a certain discharge. In the process of optimization calculation the genetic algorithm-linear programming(GALP) is used to solve the nonlinear programming model and simplex method is used to solve the linear programming model. The optimal design is obtained by the alternative calculations of these two methods.
