TWELVE ADDITIONAL "VEGA-LIKE" STARS.

Twelve additional 'Vega-like' stars which show large excess fluxes at 60 microns are found in the Bright Star Catalog from a systematic search of the IRAS point-source catalog. These stars range in spectral types from B9 to F6, while they are predominantly early A-type stars. When combined with the 12 previously known stars, there are seven spectroscopic binaries and one suspected astrometric binary among 24 Vega-like stars. The frequency of multiple systems among these stars is compatible with that among nearby stars. Six Vega-like stars show significant differences (darkening) between absolute magnitudes calculated from their parallaxes and those estimated from spectral types, as found for the star Beta Pic. These apparent darkenings may suggest the presence of circumstellar disks viewed edge-on.
