Les pronoms clitiques dans les langues romanes

Dans la grande majorite des langues, on trouve certains elements dont le statut est problematique parce que leur comportement est en apparence intermediaire entre celui des mots independants et celui des affixes habituels. S'ils semblent jouir d'une plus grande autonomie que ces derniers, ils s'appuient phonologiquement a un hote, contrairement aux mots, et forment avec lui un seul mot prosodique. De tels elements ont souvent ete appeles clitiques par les comparatistes du 19 siecle et les structuralistes, qui distinguaient proclitiques et enclitiques selon que le clitique s'attache prosodiquement au mot qui le suit ou qui le precede. L'interet pour les clitiques dans la tradition generative au sens large est lie a deux sources principales, d'une part l'analyse des pronoms clitiques (traditionnellement nommes faibles ou conjoints) en francais de Kayne (1975), livre base sur sa these non publiee de 1969 et l'etude typologique generale des differentes sortes de clitiques de Zwicky (1977). Dans ce travail, Zwicky passe en revue l'ensemble des types d'elements qui ont pu etre appeles des clitiques et releve les problemes qu'ils soulevent pour la syntaxe, la morphologie, la phonologie et leurs interfaces.
