Information skills workshops: Preparing final year engineering students for the workforce

An information skills program was developed at the University of Queensland to ensure that engineering graduates have the necessary information skills to meet the challenges of their professional careers. The program was designed collaboratively by librarians and academic staff and was an integral part of the final year engineering curriculum. The students were introduced to subject specific electronic resources that would be essential to their final year thesis project. The emphasis of the program was the need for students to develop the ability to locate, retrieve, analyse and use information as part of their need to become lifelong learners.
