Effects of On-Line Heat Treatment During High Speed Spinning of Polyester Filaments on Dye Uptake

An on-line heat treatment procedure is used to improve the microstructure of as-spun fibers during high speed spinning. On-line heat treatment reduces the breaking elongation of as-spun fibers and improves other physical properties. The influences of on-line heat treatment during spinning on the dye uptake of as-spun fibers are studied. Dye uptake versus heating temperature is a typical U-shaped curve. Some analytical work on fiber structure increases knowledge of its influence on dye uptake of fibers. Generally, dye uptake of heated fibers increases with on-line heat treatment. The 250°C on-line heat-treated yarn exhibits excellent dyeing properties in a dyeing temperature range of 80–130°C.
