Method for adaptive image signal transient improvement, and image quality improvement device for the same

A method for improving transition of an image signal and an apparatus for improving quality are provided to increase a gain of a corrected signal to an edge which represents quality improvement well while decreasing a gain of a corrected signal to an edge which represents quality improvement badly by generating a gain-controlled corrected signal with considering inclination of edges and improving transition of an image signal by using the gain-controlled corrected signal. An edge factor generator(330) calculates an edge factor corresponding to an edge characteristic of an original signal. A corrected signal generator(310) generates a corrected signal of which a gain is controlled according to the edge factor. An adder(320) adds the gain-controlled corrected signal to the original image signal for generating a transition-improved image signal. The edge factor generator includes an edge evaluation value calculator calculating an edge evaluation value to the original image signal, and an edge factor provider providing the edge factor by normalizing the edge evaluation value.
