The specification of multi-level systems for spatial analysis

In an earlier paper on the design of spatial systems for internal migration analysis (Masser, 1976) it was argued that multi-level accounting systems should be developed for comprehensive studies of population mobility. However, although it was claimed that the use of accounting systems of this kind draws attention to the importance of the specification process in its own right, only a general indication was given in this paper of the methods that might be used for this purpose. This deficiency is remedied in the following paper which is concerned solely with ways of dealing with the multi-level system specification problem.
