Comparison between the computer-simulated results and the model for estimating the co-ordination number in a three-component random mixture of spheres

Abstract A three-component random mixture of spheres which consists of course, medium and fine particles is produced by the three-dimensional computer simulation using various diameter ratios and the angle of friction between particles, and we investigated the relation between the co-ordination numbers and the fractional volume of each particle. The co-ordination numbers calculated from the model for estimating those in a multi-component mixture of spheres which was proposed by the authors in a previous paper are compared with those obtained from the computer simulation and fairly good agreement is demonstrated between the calculated results and the simulated data.
