Distributed IT-Projects, Trust and Communication Practices

Multinational globally distributed projects have becomequite common despite the fact that they are complex and oftenchallenging. Communication between team members in suchprojects needs more effort from the team. This paper is a caseof two organizations, consisting of Finns, Indians and Israelis,working on a software project together. The paperconcentrates on the communication practices of theorganization.In this study communication practices used in caseorganizations are studied using semi-structured interviews andfield observations. The study also discusses the relationshipbetween the organizations and differences and similarities ofpractice usageThe conclusion of the research was that the practicessuggested in literature were known and used to some extent.They were also found to be useful in bridging the geographicdistance between teams. The results also emphasize theimportance of trust in projects.
