8 $\times$ 10 Gb/s OTDM Signal Demultiplexing by Using Self-Cascaded Electro-Absorption Modulator (EAM) After Transmitting Over 300 km

We demonstrated a 8times10 Gb/s optical time-division-multiplexed (OTDM) transmission system over 300 km, using self-cascaded electroabsorption modulator (SCEAM) to demultiplex 10-Gb/s tributary signal in the receiver. By using SCEAM in the demultiplexer, which decreases the width of switching window of the demultiplexer by more than 50% (from ~30 to ~15 ps), an error-free demultiplexing is obtained with a sensitivity of -19 dBm, and a power penalty of 1.4 dB is achieved over the back-to-back case
