R & D and Manufacturing of EHV Controllable Shunt Reactor

Reactive power compensation using controllable shunt reactor in EHV and UHV power system not only can smoothly regulate system reactive power and realize flexible power transmission, but also can restrain power frequency and operating over-voltage, reduce line losses, and improve system stability and safety greatly. The paper introduced the system principles of controllable shunt reactor and the major technical parameters and structural characteristics of 500 kV controllable shunt reactor prototype made by Shenyang Transformer Group Limited Co., Special Transformer and Electrician. The measures and method for solving harmonic problem and noise problem were given. At the same time, the operation experiences for it abroad were introduced briefly.
