Ship Hull Representation With a Single NURBS Surface

This study focuses on the sea-going ship hull representation based on a single NURBS (Non-uniform Rational B-Spline) surface. Using the existing hull form data, half of typical ship hull is represented with a single NURBS surface for almost all the ship hull is eudipleural. The corresponding program is realized at the platform of visual C++ 6.0 and ObjectARX (AutoCAD Runtime Extension) tools provided by AutoCAD. For the high efficiency of programming, the data structure of hull form and program are described in this paper. Several typical full-scale ships’ hulls are represented as examples and also form lines and principal parameters calculated based on represented hull surface are provided, showing that the representation is reasonable and precise and it is possible to represent the other form hulls.
