Optimal sensor placement technique for locating multiple harmonic sources on a radial distribution feeder

This work presents an optimal sensor placement technique employing the reverse power flow concept to locate not only a single but multiple harmonic sources on a radial distribution feeder. The fact that this technique does not call for the disconnection of capacitors for harmonic source location, allows for normal operation of the system during the process, hence increasing the reliability of the system. A sample system is utilized to demonstrate the successful simulation of this technique. Though the simulation results and optimal sensor placement are specific to the system in question, however the concept utilized could be generally applied to any distribution system.
