Effect of Amniotic Fluid on Blood Coagulation

Amniotic fluids from, normal subjects and from patients with intrauterine death (IUD) were studied for their ability to shorten the clotting‐time of blood in vitro. The IUD amniotic fluid was different in that it seemed to require the presence of factor VII for its action whereas normal amniotic fluid did not. In this it resembled tissue factor in its action, whereas normal amniotic fluid resembled Russell Viper venom.
