A Comparative Analysis and Simulation of Load Shaping Techniques

Smart grid is the new road for modern electric grid. Since it is practically difficult to convert the whole conventional grid into a smart grid, partial smart grids' technologies have been implemented to achieve their goals. Load shaping techniques aim to control customers' total electric consumption and utility's load factor. In this paper, load shaping techniques will be formulated as constrained optimization problems for direct load control purposes. These formulations will reflect different targets of all market players and will be solved by using disciplined convex programming (CVX) based MATLAB® R2013b. Simulation results will be assessed and compared for deducing the most effective technique in improving load curve, hence in getting closer from achieving one of smart grid global goals.
