The life cycle of Hermannia scabra (C. L. Koch, 1879) (Acarina-Oribatei)1

The life cycle of H. scabra is described from observations made on field samples and laboratory cultures. The main diagnostic characters of the various immature stages are given. A technique is described for the culture of the mite in the laboratory. Under laboratory conditions, the life cycle from egg deposition to adult emergence is about 185 days at 20?C. Monthly samplings over the period of a year from broadleaved woodland suggest that one generation occurs during each year. Pe3IoMe
