Tailoring a communication device to a motor disabled child requires the availability, in the rehabilitation environment, of modularized systems which are based on several levels of standardization (mechanical, electrical, software). On this purpose, it is convenient to distinguish between ‘Institutional Devices’ and ‘Personalized Devices’, which are obtained from the former in the tailoring process by choosing and configuring the appropriate modules.
