Oral Ketoconazole in the Treatment of Leishmaniasis

ABSTRACT: Six patients with an initial cutaneous and mucocutaneous lesion of Leishmania brasilienses in Nicaragua were treated with ketoconazole, 400 mg per day for 3 months. All clinical signs and symptoms of the disease cleared rapidly in less than 3 months. No overt disease was noted at a 3 month follow‐up. Ketoconazole was well‐tolerated.
