In-line Mach-Zehnder Interferometer and FBG with Pd film for simultaneous hydrogen and temperature detection

Abstract An optical fiber hydrogen sensor based on Mach-Zehnder Interferometer and fiber Bragg grating coated with palladium (Pd) film is developed for simultaneous hydrogen and temperature measurement, which can effectively eliminate the temperature cross-sensitivity. The sensor's responses to different hydrogen volume ratios ranging from 0 to 8% are measured, with the environmental temperature varying from 23 to 63 °C, and the results obtained are in good agreement with the calculated values. Such a sensor is compact in structure, reliable in operation and hence suitable for real-time hydrogen monitoring system.
