Truncated ultrashort-pulse small-angle Bessel beams

Ultrashort-pulse single-maximum nondiffracting beams of large extension have been generated by self-apodizing truncation of small-angle Bessel beams. Beam propagation was analyzed by spatio-spectral mapping. Contrary to Gaussian beams of comparable Rayleigh length, the spectral characteristics along the axis was found to remain nearly constant.
