Amplifier Less 400 Gb/s Coherent Transmission at Short Reach

We study amplifier-less transmission at 400 Gb/s over 80 km with coherent detection. We show the power budget is limited by the CMRR and quantum noise and demonstrate how variable splitting of the laser power can extend these limits.
