A Note on One-Dimensional Constant-Head Permeability Tests

Synopsis In this Note analytical solutions for one-dimensional constant-head permeability tests are given whereby the steady state flow rates can be determined more accurately, and in addition a value of the coefficient of consolidation c may be deduced. The influence of effective stress path on the measured values of k and c is discussed and a method is outlined for studying the consolidation characteristics of soils from constant-head permeability tests which can be compared with those from the standard oedometer test. On presente des solutions analytiques pour les essais de permeabilite unidimensionels a tete d'eau constant permettant de determiner de facon plus precise les taux d'ecoulement a regime constant. De plus la valeur du coefficient de consolidation c peut etre deduite. On traite aussi de l'influence de la trajectoire suivie par les contraintes effectives sur les valeurs de c et k mesurees.
