This article describes efforts by the U.S. and Japan to jointly engage in finding technology-based solutions to reduce the high incidence of traffic accidents at intersections. The U.S.-Japan Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Joint Research Program, initiated in November 2000, allows transportation professionals from both countries to exchange information and discuss solutions being developed, evaluated, or implemented in either nation.
