Algebra and personal technology

This article discusses personal technology and describes it as technology that is likely to be available at the personal level to essentially all pupils involved in studying mathematics. The author discusses the significance of such technology and the role of algebra with a range of meanings within mathematics. Three aspects of algebra which seem to be of key significance are discussed. The paper focuses on the teaching of algebra and the assumption that all students have access to a graphics/calculator whenever they wish and having made that assumption focuses on the aspects of algebra that are of key importance.
