This paper suggests how an optimal operation of a photovoltaic d.c. motor coupled water pumping system can be realized. The optimization problem consists in maximization of the overall (photovoltaic, mechanical and electrical) efficiency of the system for every operation point, where the field current and armature voltage of the motor are continuously controlled. The method applied for optimization was Mathematical Programming utilizing nonlinear equations presenting the physical model as equality constraints. The effectiveness of the algorithm is demostrated by simulation experiments.
