EFFECTS OF ALCOHOL ON DRIVING PERFORMANCE

This study summarizes recent research on the brain's functions when under the influence of alcohol, and asserts that even small amounts of alcohol may affect a driver's ability to function well. While simple psychomotor skills may not appear to be significantly altered by some heavy drinkers, more complex skills such as vision, perception and steering are often markedly influenced. Information processing skills are diminished and the driver's ability to focus attention on more than one subject is reduced as well.
