Interventional radiology procedures in biopsy and drainage

This 194 page, pocket-size volume represents the fourth text in the Interventional Radiology (IR) Series (the remaining volumes devoted to: Handbook of angioplasty and stenting procedures; Transcatheter embolization and therapy; Interventional radiology techniques in ablation (forthcoming). The IR series aims to provide interventional radiologists (specialists and trainees) with rapid, quick, at-a-glance information about all sorts of procedures they might be faced with in daily practice. As stated in the foreword and two prefaces, the text is laid out in what is called a “bullet point format“ in order to allow easy retrieval of information needed (most of all, the Editors expect the volume to be made available in interventional suites in order to provide immediate answers to operators’ questions and doubts). This volume deals with procedures in biopsy and drainage, clearly describing clinical features and indications, diagnostic evaluation, anatomy, equipment, medication, patient preparation, procedure modality, aftercare and follow-up complications. All of the above is summarised in a concise key point box at the end of each section, enriched by a suggested reading list and pertinent, well reproduced images. Due to the fact that this volume derives from daily practice, one will find hospital jargon and acronyms that are sometimes impossible for outsiders to understand. Apart from this, it will be appreciated and frequently used by all those working in this difficult and fascinating field of radiology to obtain the best results for the patient. BOOK REVIEW RECENSIONE
