Novel compact interdigital coupled PIFA with ceramic dielectric load for portable GPS terminals

In this paper, a novel compact antenna for portable GPS terminals is presented. The size reduction of the novel compact antenna is achieved by using interdigital metal coupling and dielectric load. The dimensions of the presented antenna are 8.8*3.1*2.5mm3. Both the simulation and measurement results show that the antenna resonates at 1.575GHz with impedance bandwidth of 100 MHz and offers a maximum total gain about 3.21dB and a maximum RHCP gain about 0.51dB.
