CYBERNETIC PREDICTING DEVICES

Abstract : Predicting programs designed for large general-purpose computers constitute an important new tool in the control of production and economics. Nevertheless, small predicting filters have their own domain of application. They can be realized not only as programs for general-purpose computers, but also as simple analog devices with very fast response. The authors discuss three principal methods of prediction in addition to some others. Prediction of deterministic processes, i.e. extrapolation and interpolation. Prediction of stochastic processes, based on statistical prediction theory. Prediction based on adaptation or learning of the predicting filters. (Author)
