A Novel Ultra-Wideband Microstrip-Line Fed Wide-Slot Antenna Having Frequency Band-Notch Function

A novel band-notched ultra-wideband wide-slot antenna fed with a microstrip-line is presented. The antenna is composed of a circular microstrip patch and a semicircular arc cut on the ground of the microstrip line. By embedding a simple arc-shaped slot in the circular microstrip patch, an ultra- wideband (UWB, 3.1-10.6 GHz) operation with a notched frequency band can be obtained. The arc-shaped slot has a length of about one-half wavelength of the desired notched frequency. The measured results also show that the proposed antenna has stable radiation patterns over its whole frequency band. This kind of band-notched UWB antenna requires no external filters and thus greatly simplifies the circuit design of the communication system.
