An Alternate Procedure for the Optimization of Operations for Planning with Multiple River, Multiple Purpose Systems

A technique is developed for maximizing the financial feasibility of a complex, multiple river water resources system for planning purposes, based on deliveries of firm power, in-season water, dump power, and off-season water, with flood control and releases for noncommensurate objectives as parameters. This method is an important modification of a previously reported analysis involving dynamic programing, linear programing, and modified gradient procedure, replacing the computationally inefficient linear programing determination of the shadow prices by a standard sequence of constraints. Total computation time is reduced from hours to minutes.
