Chlorine L-edge absorption in CCl4 and CCl2F2

The absorption spectrum of the chlorine 2p subshell in CCl4 and CCl2F2 has been photographed using a laser plasma continuum source. A number of discrete transitions were observed and identified with the aid of Hartree-Fock calculations. The usefulness of atomic calculations in the interpretation of inner-shell spectra is discussed.
