The International Council on Metals and the Environment

Founded in 1991, the International Council on Metals and the Environment (ICME) is a non-governmental organization that promotes the development and implementation of sound environmental and health policies and practices in the production, use, recycling and disposal of non-ferrous and precious metals. These case studies have been published by ICME as part of a series of publications providing information on environmental and health matters relating to the metals mining and producing industry. The contents of ICME publications range from general and technical information about these topics to discussions of issues relevant to environmental and/or health-related policies affecting the mining and metals sector. It is believed that the topics examined are of concern not only to the industry, but also to others, including policy makers, regulators, educators and the public at large. ICME hopes that these publications provide insight into what are sometimes difficult and complex issues.
