Verification and validation (V&V) of BOM-based HLA simulation system

One of the aims of HLA (high level architecture) is taking full advantage of interoperability and reuse for federation, but the reusability is limited in the HLA simulation system developed by traditional method, and the development efficiency is lower. Base object model (BOM) provided by SISO (Simulation Interaction Standard Organization) is a standard description specification for component framework, whose core idea is to support and promote interoperability, reuse, and composability for Modeling and Simulation (M&S) from the simulation model level and to provide the component-oriented method for facilitating the composability of simulation model. BOM-based HLA simulation system can meet the requirement the reusability and interoperability on the level of simulation model component (SMC). Credibility is the life line for system simulation. To insure the credibility and usability of BOM-based HLA simulation system, it is very necessary to research the verification and validation (V&V) for the federation development and execution process (FEDEP) all the life cycle. In this paper, firstly the architecture framework of BOM-based HLA simulation system is introduced. Secondly, the process of FEDEP is put forward. Thirdly, the process of V&V for that system is studied, and the processes of V&V for user model, simulation model component and federate are focused. Finally, this research is applied in the anti-ship missile's penetration federation developed by our laboratory. The result shows that the research process of V&V is feasible and BOM-based HLA simulation system is usable and credible, the process of V&V can give good directions to develop and improve the system.
