Breast cancer is the commonest form of cancer amongst women in the UK. Each year there are approximately 24,000 new cases and 15,000 deaths from the disease. Following the submission of the Forrest Report in 1986 a national breast cancer screening program has recently been established in the UK. FAXIL has been asked to investigate areas where the implementation of digital imaging technology may facilitate and/or enhance future cycles of the program. One element of the research program, the development of a clinical workstation for digital mammography, is described here.
