Factorial and Construct Validity of the Chinese Positive and Negative Affect Scale for Student

Objective:To revise the Chinese Positive and Negative Affect Scale for Student and explore its factorial and construct validity. Methods: The scale, composed of items from Bradburn and interview with students, along with the NEO-FFI and SCL-90, was used to assess 2268 students from six districts. And the factorial and construct validity was evaluated by reliability analysis, Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis and criteria validity test. Results:α for positive affect and negative affect were 0.82 and 0.80, respectively. The loadings of the items were between 0.45 and 0.80. The fit indices of the two-factor model were all above 0.90. The correlation of PA and extraversion was 0.34, that of NA and neuroticism was 0.59 and that of NA and SCL-90 were between 0.37 and 0.57.Conclusion:Reliability and validity of the two-factor model of the scale was strongly supported.
