Design of resilient processing plants—VII. Design of energy management system for unstable reactors—new insights

Abstract In previous parts of this series methods were developed for the design of plants which are not only “optimal” at some nominal operating point but which can also deal effectively with disturbances and changes in the operating conditions. These techniques are extended here and applied to synthesize the heat exchanger network and the control structure for a sequence of two exothermic open-loop unstable continuous stirred tank reactors.
