Finding Hotspots of Thermal Energy Waste: Modelling the Energy Balance of a Noodle Production System☆

Abstract Studies revealed that thermal processes are energy intensive and generate excessive waste heat. To reduce energy cost, waste heat can be recovered back to the production system or other equipment. This paper proposes a modelling methodology to provide industries with a breakdown of their energy use and losses. The model is applied in a case study of a noodle production system. Results showed that only 45% of the energy input is used in production. Breakdown of thermal losses revealed that waste heat from the exhaust may have the potential for recovery.
