A Local Forwarding Implementation Scheme in OFDMA-Based Multihop Cellular Networks

Motivated by the advantages of relaying, multi-hop relay (MR) architecture has been considered in the IEEE 802.16 networks, where the relay stations (RSs) were introduced into the conventional cellular networks to exploiting spatial reuse and to combating the shadowing at high radio frequency. In the current MR networks, the communication path has not been optimized, especially for two SSs attached to the same RS need to communicate with each other. We propose a local forwarding implementation scheme which enables two SSs within the same RS communicating directly via RS’s forwarding which reduced the hops between two SSs. We find that the local forwarding scheme can improve the overall system throughput in most cases by numerical simulations.
