The dark side of CEO succession

This paper looks at the succession process reviewing some of the psychological forces which corne into play at such times. Factors such as the denial of death, the need for a legacy, loss of power, unconscious sabotage and the need for reprisai will be discussed. The psychological ramifications of chosing between an insider versus an outsider will be another issue to be explored. Finally, in creating a smooth transition, the key role of the board is emphasized.
